SPORTS CLUB SUPPORTS AUTO-CYCLE UNION CANNOT BIND MEMBERS A full meeting of the executive of the Sports Motor-Cycle Club last evening decided to continue its support of the New Zeaeland Auto-Cycle Union. Speakers made it clear, however, that the club’s official attitude does not bind its members. The club has been affiliated with the union for many years and runs bead* race meetings under its rules. The union decided a few months ago that only one cinder race-track* should be recognised in each centre, and selected the municipal stadium at Western Springs as the official track in Auckland. A number of the riders affiliated with A.C.U., however, most of whom are members of the Sports Club, decided that a monopoly was not in their best interests and announced their intention of appearing on the cinders at Blundford Park, an unofficial track a® far as the union is concerned. This would lead to their immediate disqualification and prevent them appearing on any official track in the Dominion. “The Western Springs Company wi!l uphold any disqualification,” said Mr. R. E. Champtaloup, at last evening s meeting. “I tell you emphatically that once a rider leaves Western Springs Stadium he will not appear on the track there again this season. Australian riders will be imported to fill any gaps.” The advantages of continuing affiliation with the union and of riders appearing at Western Springs was outlined by Mr. Champtaloup, who said Auckland Speedways, Ltd., was prepared to give every encouragement t** local men. The company has already landed one machine for the use o ! * riders whose own mounts developed trouble at the last minute, and another machine will arrive shortly. The Sports Club then passed the following resolution as a declaration of its official attitude: —“That thoclub avows its loyal support of the New Zealand Auto-Cycle Union and its will - j ingness to abide by all rules and deci- ! sions: furthermore, in view of rumour* ! current, the club desires to disassociate i itself from any non-affiliated speed war [ club or bodr»*
