BOSTON “SPEAKEASIES”
VAST LIQUOR TRAFFIC ALLEGED NEW YORK, Monday. The startling statement has been made that Boston has now assumed a place second only to Chicago as a centre of vice. It is stated that the illicit liquor traffic has under the prohibition law reached the staggering figure of £12,000,000 a year. Four thousands “speakeasies” and 15,000 professional bootleggers supply the city with DO.OOo gallons of liquor a week, while it is alleged that policemen in uniform, and driving police cars, are active agents in the delivery of liquor.
