COUNTRY CENTRE MEETINGS Several women’s institutes have been holding annual meetings, and general satisfaction is expressed with the past year’s work. Three reports are given below: Tuakau. —The Tuakau branch met in the Tuakau Town Hall, when Mrs. Parker presided over a good attendance. A demonstration of penpainting was given by Miss W oolley, and a prize for pen-painting was donated by Mrs. Glasgow, and won by Mrs. P. Smith. There was a good response to an appeal made at a previous meeting for each member to bring an article to send to Auckland for charity. It was decided to send the parcels to the Rev. Jasper Calder. The hostesses were Mrs. F. Burnett and Mrs.' Goodwin. Te Atatu.—At the annual meeting of the Te Atatu branch, the president, Mrs. Paton, spoke of the progress of the institute during the year, of which the hospital auxiliary had been a great feature, and which she hoped would never be given up. After tributes to the work of the secretary and the committee, the report and balance sheet were adopted. Appreciation of the work of retiring officers was voiced, and new officers were elected as follow:—President, Mrs. Chadwick; vicepresident, Mrs. Moor; committee, Mesdames Anderson, Chadwick, Gill, Illingworth, Brokenshire, Moor, Walters, Shale, Semadeni and Farmiloe; secretary, Mrs. Gill; treasurer, Mrs. Illingworth. Waingaro.—The report and balance sheet for the year’s activities were read and adopted at the second annual meeting of the Waingaro branch. Mrs. Picken was re-elected president. An address on “Co-operation” was given by Mrs. Wettenhall, voluntary organiser of the Auckland Provincial Federation of Women’s Institutes. During the afternoon Miss J. Seavill was presented with a wedding present from the members. A sales table in aid of the Waingaro School sports realised £2 15s, and a collection for the Sunshine League, Hamilton, amounted to £1 10s.
