RACING AT WOODVILLE FIRST DAY’S RESULTS FINE ACRE WINS HURDLES Press Association WOODVILLE, Today. The weather was fine but dull for the first day of the Woodville Jockey Club’s spring meeting. There was a largo attendance, and the track was in good order. Results: MAUNGATADA HURDLES Of £150; li miles 3—FINE ACRE, 10.3 1 7 VINELLA, 9.0 2 2—AIR FORCE, 9.1 3 Scratched: Schorr. TRIAL PLATE Of £100; 6 fui. 2—GRATTUS, 8.11 1 5 HABIT, 8.11 2 G—GRECIAN, 8.11 3 Scr.: Dancing Stag, Lady (Sen. Won by half a length, with a nose between second and third. Time, 1.17. Grattus, Tigrano and Platina were favourites for the Trial Plate. Cook and Joke Form were left and Arrowzone led to the straight from Pedestal and there Grattus came through and won by a length from Habit, with Grecian a close third and Pedestal fourth. BOLTON HANDICAP Of £275; 11 miles 8— MERRY MINT, 8.1 ........ .. 1 7—COURAGEOUS, 7.7 .. .. X A 2 6 AVRO, 7.7 .. A .. 3 Scr.: Imperial Spark. Time, 2.8 2-5. Moepai led all the w r ay to the straight in the Bolton Handicap, and there Talisker was handy, with First Acre, Merry Mint, Blimp and Courageous following. Courageous appeared to have the race won when Merry Mint came again and won by a head from Courageous, who was half a length in front of Avro, with Kick. Off and Talisker next. Kick Off and Merry Mint should be the better for the race.

WEST COAST TROTTING WESTPORT HANDICAPS Tho light-harness sport forms one of the main attractions for West Coasters during the Christmas and New Y'ear holidays, and the circuit offering is popular with owners and trainers in the South. The carnival opens at Westport on December 26 and 27, and meetings follow at Hokitika, Greymouth and Reefton.
