ROTORUA GOLF CLUB

SPECIAL MEETING HELD I Prom Our Own Correspondent ROTORUA, Today. About 70 members attended a special meeting of the Rotorua Golf Club in St. John’s Hall lasts evening, to amend certain rules relating to subscriptions and fees. Dr. Hay, in moving a motion that the annual subscription be raised from £ 4 for men to £ 5 ss, and for women from £2 15s to £3 16s, reducible by £1 Is if paid within three months of due date, stated that the object of the motion was to secure more revenue for the club, so that certain improvements may be carried out. It was proposed that a new clubhouse be erected, and the cost of this work was in the vicinity of £2,600. Also, the links badly -wanted water laying to the greens, and as the club could get no satisfaction from the Tourist Department regarding the watering, it was suggested that the club undertake this work. If the greens had been properly watered in past dry seasons, the links would have been undoubtedly the best summer links in the Dominion. Mr. Worthington, in seconding the motion, said that at the present .rate of revenue it w-ould take three years before the work outlined could be undertaken, and suggested that the Rotorua Club should push forward the improvements, so that the club was keeping abreast of other clubs in the country. Mr. Tapper, in opposing the motion, stated that the present fees would cater for young players, who would not be able to afford the fees proposed in the motion. Mr. Hall (chairman), in supporting the motion, expressed his opinion that the Rotorua links should be kept up to the highest standard possible, as a large number of tourists visited Rotorua especially on account of the links. It was moved that the motion be decided by ballot, and the result clearly indicated the feeling of the meeting—for the proposal, 51; against, 15. The second motion put to the meeting was carried by a substantial majority. This was that the green fees be raised from 2s 6d a round to 3s 6d a round, and 4s a day to 4s a day. An amendment that green fees for visitors over the week-end should he fixed at 5s a round was defeated.
