WATERFRONT ROAD
APPLICATION MADE FOR BUS SERVICE LICENCE NOT GRANTED An application to run a bus service I along tlie new waterfront road was made to the Transport Board this morning by L. J. Iveys, L,td., of St. Hellers Bay. ! The application was declined, howl ever, chiefly because the Auckland i City Council refused to take responsibility for the road until it had been properly completed and dedicated. The council also protested because the road was as yet unlighted and the bridges only temporary. Mr. V. K. Meredith, who appeared on behalf of the applicant company, pointed out that the proposed service would be confined to daylight hours. The applicants had already been before the No. 1 licensing authority when that body was the City Council. It was felt the Transport Board, which had taken over licensing, should now state its decision. The Public Works Department had advised that the road would now be open from sunrise to sunset, and that the bridges had carried 27-ton railway engines. The application was supported by the Tamaki Ratepayers' and Residents’ Association.
