TROUBLE ON STEAMER
CREW MEMBERS DISAPPEAR KAIKORAI DELAYED A DAY The steamer Kaikorai was delayed at Auckland for nearly a day over the week-end on account of missing stokers and cooks. The vessel was to have sailed for Port Kembla at 5 p.m. on Saturday, but at sailing time six stokers were missing. Foui of them went on board after six o’clock, and as the other two could not be found substitutes weie engaged in their place. While the substitutes were being engaged, two cooks disappeared. Orders were then given for the Kaikorai to go to an anchorage in the stream until the cooks were found. However, the crew refused to taka the vessel from the wharf until tha cooks were on board. By the time they were located and taken on board the trouble was further complicated because the two substitute stokers had gone on shore., and it was then too late at night to engage others in their place. As yesterday was Sunday, the task of finding unemployed stokers vas difficult, and it. was after midday before two were signed on to replace the missing men. The vessel left for Port Kembla shortly after ono o’clock.
