SUMMER CAMP SITE

SUNSHINE ASSOCIATION BENEFITS TREATMENT AT OSTEND A camping area on Waiheke Island will probably be available this summer for children concerned in the Community Sunshine Association. Through the president of the association, Mrs. N. E. Ferner, Mr. L. Arnoldson, of Orakei Road, Remuera, has offered a house at Ostend for a health camp for children for a period of years. Mrs. Ferner will make an effort to have the camp conducted this summer and she Is making an appeal for funds to equip the building. In Europe and in America sunshine and open-air treatments are regarded as highly valuable and the summercamp system is being adopted widely. Ostend camp, serving as a supplement to the Nelson Street Sunshine School, would include treatment similar to that provided for children in the Wanganui education district by Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, who each year conducts a camp at Turakina. Private property Is made available for the purpose and excellent worlf is accomplished in correcting cases of malnutrition. The association’s methods will be based on those of the large camp held in Great Britain by Sir Henry Vauvain. Five rooms and a spacious glassedin verandah comprise the Ostend house, which overlooks the sea and is near a splendid beach. There is a large section of land with the house. The association’s gratitude to Mr. Arnoldson was expressed by Mrs. Ferner, who said the organisation had been seeking a summer health camp for children who did not readily respond to treatment. Inquiries had been made by parents on the possibility of providing such health treatment. To allow provision for the number of children it is hoped to accommodate, considerable expenditure will be necessary.
