WRESTLING TONIGHT
ALLEY GETS RETURN AGAINST WALKER THRILLING BOUT EXPECTED Tom Alley will get a chance of revenge for his first defeat in New Zealand When he meets George Walker in the wrestling bout at the Town Hall this evening. Booking for the match is heavy, indicating that there will be a muoh larger attendance than last week, when the size of the crowd was disappointing. On that occasion the crowd was thrilled by the wonderful display between two of the best wrestlers ever seen in Auckland in what was the greatest bout ever staged in New Zealand. It would be idle to say that this evening’s contest could be any better, but it promises to be just as good. Last Monday’s contest was fast and clever and the endurance the men displayed was amazing. A hot pace was set from tile opening of the first round and it did not seem possible that it could be maintained. However, there was no slackening, and thrill followed thrill. Walker won without a shadow of doubt. He had the better of the going on his feet, but there was little between them on the mat. So sure was Alley after the match that he could defeat Walker if given an opportunity, that he challenged the Canadian for another bout on a win-ner-take-all basis. The New Zealand Wrestling Association had closed its season as far as professional bouts were concerned, but it could see no reason why another bout should not be staged, and it was decided that the two men would meet again tonight. It was hoped- that Alley’s £IOO crucifix challenge would be decided but restrictions by the police left nothing to be done except to call off the test. There is still interest attaching to the Question of whether Walker can break the hold, ns in the last match Alley nearly succeeded in getting it applied, and he will be ready to get it in tonight’s match if the opportunity offers. A good programme of amateur bouts has been arranged.
