PAPATOETOE CLUB’S CARNIVAL SUCCESSFUL MEETING Tlie keen interest displayed by both the large assembly of spectators and the competitors at the opening carnival of the newly-formed Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club on Saturday afternoon augurs well for the future success of this club. The meeting was held on the Papatoetoe Recreation Ground, which had been specially prepared for the occasion, and the tracks were very favourably commented upon by the visiting athletes, who included some of Auckland’s leading amateurs. Good times were recorded in the majority of the events, the runners being assisted by a following breeze. Some close and stirring finishes were witnessed, only inches separating the placed runners in a couple of the finals. . The officials of the club had the arrangements well in hand, and the events were run off to schedule. The Papatoetoe Town Band was in attendance, and enlivened the proceedings with an enjoyable programme of musical items. The officials for the meeting were' — Starter and handicapper, Mr. C. G.
