NEW REGENT
“NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH”
Another entertaining talkie programme is delighting patrons of the New Regent Theatre this week. The chief attraction is an amusing comedy-drama of modern American life entitled “Nothing But the Truth,” and starring the well-known screen player, Richard Dix. This picture marks his debut into the talkies. The original play by James Montgomery has been followed very closely in the screen version, and the laugh lines that in the original appear with the same effectiveness from the screen. Victor Schertsinger,. who directed, held very closely to the stage action. The story deals with four associates in a broker’s office who bet one of the number that he cannot tell the truth for 24 hours. From the moment that the bet starts the trio who are holding one end accompany the victim and make his life miserable. An excellent selection of short talking and singing featurettes is to be presented on the programme and includes Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony,” a talking comedy and a sound gazette. Mr. Arthur G. Frost is heard on the Wurlitzer organ. She established herself as the “Empress of ‘lt’ ” the first time she appeared in pictures. She established herself as a talking picture actress when she appeared in “The Wild Party,” and now she establishes herself as one of the world’s most versatile actresses in her role of equestrienne and female clown in "Dangerous Curves.” She is Clara Bow, and her newest all-talking play, a story of the circus, coifies to the New Regent Theatre on . Saturday as the next change. In support of Miss Bow in this new picture are Richard Arlen, featured player in “Wings,” Lind other successful films, David Newell, romantic lead from Broadway, and Kay Francis.
