DROWNED IN BREAKERS
TRAGEDY AT WHANGAREI YOUNG SWIMMER’S DEATH From. Our ‘Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Today. A tragedy occurred at Ruakaka Beach yesterday afternoon, when Robert Henry Bretnall, a young music teacher, formerly of Auckland, was drowned. In company with a boy, Campbell McLean, Bretnall entered the water for a swim, and McLean came out of the water. He called out and asked him if he was all right. When Brentnall replied that he was McLean left him. That was the last seen of Bretnall. A search party was organised as soon as he was missed, but without result. It is thought that cramp overcame him. His body has not yet been recovered. Brentnall was very popular in music circles, being leader of the cinema orchestra and organist in the Presbyterian Church.
