NEW PACIFIC LINERS
TWO PASSENGER AND CARGO STEAMERS CONTRACT FOR CONSTRUCTION (United P.A.—By Telegraph Copyright) ASHINGTON, Saturday. A contract covering the loans recenUy awarded to the Oceanic Steamship Company for the construction of two combination passenger and cargo steamers for the Australian trade, was signed today by representatives of the Shipping Board, the company, and the Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporaliou, which will construct the steamers. The loans, which amount to £1,170,000 for each ship, represent three-fourths of the cost of construction. The vessels will have a speed of 20 knots, and be of a superior type to the others engaged in the same trade. They will be among the largest vessels yet undertaken by American shipyards, with a deadw eight tonnage of approximately 11,300. Two years will be necessary for their completion.
