EX-SOLDIER’S DEATH
WAIPIRO BAY TRAGEDY Press Association GISBORNE, Sunday. An inquest was held at Waipiro Bay yesterday concerning the death of Reginald John Burnett, aged 39, a married man with four children, who was found hanged in his home. Evidence was given by Mrs. Burnett that her husband always suffered severely from nerves, due to war experiences. He had been gassed and wounded. He had previously threatened to take his own life. When the Vi aipiro Bay Hall, which adjoined their home, was burned to the ground last Sunday, the explosion of a gas cylinder had seriously upset him. After other evidence had been heard the jury returned a verdict of death from strangulation, self-inflicted while temporarily insane. A rider was added that deceased was induced to take his life throogh injuries received in war service.
