YEAR’S GOOD PROGRESS
AUCKLAND TRAMPING CLUB INCREASING POPULARITY Keen interest was displayed by members in the activities of the Auckland Tramping Club last year, according to the fourth annual report to be presented to the annual meeting on October 23. Several week-end trips to the West Coast beaches and Manukau Heads during the summer were very successful.
The week-end tramps, too. received « decided impetus by the opening: of the rangres hut. a considerable area of the ranges being traversed for the first time. This country would provide many week-end outingrs for next year after the breaks and routes were correctly defined. Other trips included the annual visit to Tongrariro National Park on Labour Day, to Coromandel Peninsula at Christmas, and tho Waipoua Forest and Trounson Kauri Park at Easter. An important event in the club’s history was the opening: of the club hut. “Ngaro te Kotare,” in the Waitakere Ranges on March 17. The value of the hut was demonstrated by the fact that 150 people had used it during? the winter months, and it made possible many new trips which were too far distant in a single day. The club’s membership now stood at 87, 33 new members being enrolled during the y ear.
The c lub’s financial position was ! very satisfactory, the balance in the | general fund being .£24. Assets were j ' alued at £ 90, and there were no direct liabilities. It was hoped that the funds would have accumulated sufficiently in a few years to pay off f he contingent liabilitity represented v, y the capital invested in the hut.
