REDS RAID BORDER
NUMEROUS SKIRMISHES REPORTED CHINESE PREPARE FOR WORST (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian a>id K.Z. Press Association) Reed. 11 a.m. SHANGHAI, Friday. There has been little actual fighting during the past 24 hours in the Manchurian theatre of war. The Russians have been content with staging a raid in the vicinity of Manchuli, 300 soldiers alighting from an armoured train and peppering the Chinese garrison with machine-guns. They withdrew before a heavy reply. There have been many small skirmishes, too numerous to mention, along the border. An unverified report states that 4,000 Russians are crossing Chinese territory north-west of Lake Hengkai. Definite action is expected in consequence of the arrival of the Russian Far East commander, General Bleucher. The Chinese are preparing for the worst.
