WAITEMATA COUNTY

CONDITION OF HIGHWAYS At a meeting of the Waitemata * bounty Council, held yesterday, Mr. L. E. Kerr-Taylor presiding, it was reported by the engineer, Mr. A. Murray, that steady progress had been made with the general maintenance of main highways in the county during July, and the roads were in very fair order. • 1 For the concreting of the Titirangi Road, a loan poll will be held in the riding next Wednesday, and it is confidently expected that the ratepayers will favour the proposal, in which case, specifications and the estimate of the cost of the work will be forwarded to the Main Highways Board for official approval. The arrangements for raising the required loan to construct the Qratia Hall were practically finished, stated the report. The work of resurfacing the Henderson-Swanson highway with metal chips was already underway. The engineer complained that the Ararimu Valley Road had been spoiled by the heavy lorries of the Forestry Department. The cost of the repair work would be between £2OO and £3OO, and he felt that the department should be asked to make this good. It was decided to write asking that the roa.d should be put in order, and enclosing an estimate of the cost.
