PAPAKURA CATHOLICS HOLD “MOVIE” AND FANCY DRESS FUNCTION

I. FOR CHURCH FUNDS The Fapakura Catholic Church held a grand movie and fancy dress mask ball in the Paragon Theatre in aid of the church funds. The function was a huge success and reflected great credit on the organisers, Mrs. T. G. Smith and Mrs. J. Egan, of Karaka. Delightful dance music was played by Mr. Phil Hardman's orchestra. Extras were kindly played by Miss Leila llae. Auckland, and Mr. Chris. Scarell. A cake-guessing competition was won by Miss L. Mack. The prize winners were:—Women: Movie star, Miss W. Whalen as Lilian Gish: the best fancy costume, Miss Joan IXollis, “Early Victorian”; most original fancy dress, Miss Abbott, Lamp Shade. Special prizes were presented to Miss Olive Wright, an African Black Woman, and Miss Phyllis Drury, as Black and Gold Pierette: Men: Best representation of a movie star, Mr. Arthur Johnston as Richard Dix; best fancy dress, Mr. Leon Lacassie as "The Sheik”: most original, Mr. Chris. Searell as Old Mother Hubbard with the dog and the bone. Among those in fancy dress were: Miss B. Kenny (Manurewa), Queen of Hearts; Miss Phil. Fitzpatrick, wearing green ring velvet with silver painted shawl; Miss R. Geraghty, green crepe de chine; Miss Gloria Geraghty (Ruawai), blue tarffeta and lace; Miss P. Harrison, red crepp de chine, overdress of gold lace; Miss C. I-laughey (Takanini), tomato crepe de chine and silver lace; Miss Marjorie Johnston, who had on blue ring velvet; Miss B. King, in lemon embossed georgette and silver lame; Miss Beryl King, who wore ciel blue taffeta with tiered skirt; Miss Long (Pukekohe), red ring velvet and silver lace; Miss D.
