BOXING SOCIAL

PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES NORTHERN ASSN. ENTERTAINS Trophies won at the l-ecent Auckland amateur boxing championships were presented to the winners at the annual social of the Northern Boxing Association held in the Lewis Eady Hall last evening. Special trophies were also presented for good displays at the last carnival. The Craig Cup for the most scientific boxer at the tournament was presented to H. Johns and the Kohn Shield for the trainer with the largest number of wins to Eugene Donovan. Mr. E. A. Craig, president of the association made the presentations. All the members of the Auckland team for the New Zealand champion - ships at Greymoutli were present and were given a rousing send-off. Mr. Craig wished the team the best of luck and said that he was sure the members would uphold Auckland’s good name whether they won ’or whether they lost. He concluded by giving hints on point-scoring blows, saying that hitting with the open glove, inside of the glove and on the back part of the body would not receive points from the judges at Greymoutli. A vote of sympathy with the wife and relatives of the late Mr. James Hodgson, a former vice-president of the association, was passed, all present standing in silence. During the evening items were given by Messrs. O’Halloran. Fryer Raisher, F. Baker. W. Dickson, Marks. R. Yates and W. Roberts. Mr. Murdoch acted as accompanist.
