WATER FOR TAKAPUNA

METROPOLITAN SCHEME SUPPORTED Disappointment with the action of the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, in refusing passage to the Bill dealing with the proposed Metropolitan Water Board was expressed by the Mayor of Takapuna, Mr. J. W. Williamson, wh>n addressing a meeting of electors at Milford last evening. Mr. Williamson said that the North Shore Water Board had considered the details of what was regarded as the soundest of the various schemes for supplying the Shore. This was the proposal to link up with the city’s Waitakere scheme. The estimated outlay was £225,000. Under the metropolitan scheme Auckland and its environs would be supplied from the Waikato River, and eventually from Arapuni Lake. In place of the huge capital expenditure entailed by the Waitakere proposal, the North Shore boroughs would have water delivered to their territories without any capital charges. Further, the charge per thousand gallons would be less than that to be levied by the Auckland City Council.
