Munro Will be Riding in Germany

A BIG RETAINER WASTED TO RIDE STATESMAN It is now practically certain J. Munro Will go to Germany next year, says a writer. The onlv doubt attached to expenses, and he received a satisfactory reply to his cable on that score. “Boran Oppenheim also cabled me that I would receive a letter from him confirming everything,” said Munro, last week, -and i suppose I shall got It within the next four weeks. it will be a great experience for me to ride in Germany, and may lead to something even better. “During the past year I was luckv in getting mounts on winners of so many big races, but as I can scarcely expect to do so well this season a retainer of between £2,000 and £3,000 is attractive. It gives you something worth having, even if you do not ride winners. “Wins at Randwick mean something substantial, but at some of the smaller meetings, with many races run in two divisions, and a few in three, owners cannot always afford to be liberal. “Nor can a rider expect it, with a small prize and a cramped price.” Wants Little Wasting Munro can ride with comfort at 8.4. and with hard wasting can get down to S.O. “I did it to ride Statesman,” he remarked, “but though the result justified it, I felt the effects for some time after.” He is hopeful that in Germany most of his riding will be at a sufficiently high scale of weights to make wasting unnecessary. Last year he made an earlv engagement to ride Statesman in 'the Melbourne Cup, but this time he has not made any definite arrangements for the spring, though he may again be on Amounis in the Epsom.
