PAKURANGA PROGRAMME SELECT SPRINT FIELD Although the Jellicoe Handicap and the Fukuranga Hunt Cup have drawn splendid fields, and bear a very open appearance, it is likely that the race that will attract most interest is the Dunedin Handicap, the open six furlongs event.

Speculation on this event is expected to be very lively, for opinions are well divided as to the respective merits of several candidates, notably the two top-weights. Gold Money ‘ (the best sprinter trained at Ellerslie for some time) and Paddon. who won with almost ridiculous ease the big mile on the first day of the 'Wellington meeting at Trentham last month. On that remarkable performance it must be confessed that Paddon can sprint as well as run out a middle distance. The Jellicoe Handicap has attracted an even field, and it is difficult to sort out the horse that is going to be the favourite on the day. So far as the Hunt Cup is concerned, it is almost a certainty that Odin will be the favourite, for he has by far the best credentials of those engaged—and naturally he has the most weight.
