STRAND

“4 DEVILS” The thrills and romance of circus life are vividly revealed in "4 Devils,” which is now drawing to the close of its session at the Strand Theatre. Directed by Murnau, who was largely responsible for the success of "Sunrise.” the film is interpreted by a notable cast, including Janet Gaynor. Nancy Drexel, Charles Morton, Barry Norton, Farrell McDonald and Mary Duncan . A synchronised musical score including the theme song, "Marion,” is played by the orchestra of the famous Roxy Theatre, and adds considerably to the merit of the production. The story deals with the careers of two brothers and two sisters, who are employed as acrobats by a prominent circus manager. In the course of time, the pupils ris® to the top of their profession, and Charles, the leader of the troupe, falls in love with Nancy, the leading acrobat. On the opening night of the circus in Paris, a wealthy French woman succeeds in luring Charles away from his fiancee, and the manner in which Nancy succeeds in winning her lover from the beautiful Parisienne makes the climax of this interesting production. In support of the principal feature is a full talking programme with variety as its keynote, Alphonse, King of Spain, talks clearly and chattily, giving his audience a delightful sense of privilege. Clark and McCullough entertain hilariously in "The Bath Between,” and Fox Movietone news transports both eyes and ears, here, there, and everywhere.
