WHEN STRENGTH IS NEEDED
“VULCANITE” CASES
It often happens that a travellingcase is required to withstand abnormally hard and constant wear. Commercial travellers, for instance, who are on the road continuously, and are carrying samples from place to place, frequently need a case of exceptional wearing capacity, that is yet lighter and less cumbersome than the hamper or sample case of the trunk variety, and that can easily be carried in the hand. There is only one known material which will give the service demanded for this purpose, and that is Vulcanite. Vulcanite is a specially prepared fibre board which has been put through a vulcanising process, in the course of manufacture. It is extremely tough—in fact, it is quite a difficult matter to cut it with an ordinary pocket knife—and it is recognised throughout the world as the most durable substance of which travelling goods can be made. A few months ago a sling broke while unloading a coastal vessel at one of New Zealand’s ports. In that sling was a Vulcanite case, and several heavy sample cases, weighing nearly 2cwt each. The Vulcanite case fell underneath the sample cases, but was straightened out again for two or three shillings, and is still in use on the road. There is not a mark to show what it has been through. Vulcanite suitcases are made by Palrmr, Collins, and Whitaker, Ltd., of Ponscnby Road, Auckland. When specially required for the use of commercial travellers, these cases are supplied with extra heavy locks and hinges to stand the constant usage to which they are subjected.
They have a handsome appearance, and will endure practically unharmed through long periods of heavy, constant travelling. For a commercial traveller, whose business calls for rapid movement from town to town with a limited quantity of samples, Vulcanite cases are indispensable, and their lasting qualities will well repay the original outlay.
