INFLUENZA WANES
SCARLET FEVER PREVALENT incidence of influenza, which swept through the city six weeks ago, seems to have subsided almost entirely this month, no cases having been reported in the Auckland central district so far. Only nine cases of pneumonia have been reported. Usually July is regarded as the month in which influenza reaches its peak. The malady then wanes in intensity to increase again for a short period in October. Scarlet fever and diphtheria, however, have shown a material increase compared with June. Forty-five cases of scarlet fever have been reported so far this month, compared with 42 last month. Diphtheria notifications this month number 35, compared with 34 last month.
