FARES FOR VEHICLES
FERRY COMPANY WILL NOT REDUCE The Auckland Automobile Association has recommended that, with the alteration of the vehicular service route across the harbour, there should be a corresponding reduction in fares. The Devonport Steam Ferry Co., Ltd., has decided otherwise. Fares cannot be reduced. JN response to a request from a deputation asking that the vehicular fare be 2s 6d instead of 3s 4d, the Devonport Steam Ferry Co. notified last evening’s meeting of the Auckland Automobile Association that no reduction could be made, except that the case of very small cars would be considered. The increased harbour dues and the greater frequency 1 of the service made a reduction in fares impossible. The question of an improved service to Birkenhead would be considered on the completion of the new landingstage. The letter was received.
