TE AWAMUTU NEWS
The Ilev. W. Lutterworth announced at the Sunday services in the Te Awamutu Presbyterian Church that the total gifts at the thanksgiving services the previous Sunday exceeded ,£157. This special offertory was l'or church purposes in lieu of asking the ladies to arrange a bazaar or sales of work. The response by the congregation was a splendid one.
Mr. W. CTavis, of Hamilton, representing Watson’s Motors, Ltd.. attended the meeting of the Waipa County Council on Monday to ask the council to grant a concession in respect to heavy traffic on the Ilamilton-Te Awamutu main highway. Mr. Clavis said the bus plied regularly every day, providing an appreciated. convenience to many passengers, including school children. A new bus weighed 3 tons 16 cwt. and carried up to 32 passengers, which would far exceed the weight limit prescribed for the road.
The engineer said the regulations permitted exemptions, which in some places were used to allow cream lorries to ply on certain routes. The council, after discussing the application, declined the request.
