TAUMARUNUI JOTTINGS

(From Our Own Correspondent)

The Railway Social Hall was the scene of a large gathering on the occasion of a valedictory social given to Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Webb, who have left for Marton, Mr. Webb being on transfer to the Rangitikei centre on promotion.

The building- had been attractively decorated, and presented a most charming appearance. Early in the evening regret was expressed at the unavoidable absence of Mr. Crozier, who was indisposed. The proceedings comprised dancing. music, games and contributed items, and a most delightful time was spent. A special orchestra consisting of Miss Holland (piano), and Messrs. Butt (violin), Cullen (saxophone), and Chamberlain (effects) rendered delightful music. Mr. J. A. Arthur, stationmaster, speaking for the railway staffs, referred to Mr. Webb’s popularity as a railway official and as an energetic mover in social activities, and asked him to accept a wallet as a token of their remembrance. Mr. Stringer supplemented Mr. Arthur’s remarks, and cheers were given for the guests.

The brethren of the 1.0.0. F., M.U., Lodge gave a pleasant evening .to a number of guests, the event being organised by Mesdames Leydon and Dawson, and Bro. Bastion being M.C. Competitive and novelty dances were held, and caused much pleasure. Items were rendered by Miss R. Dawson and Messrs. Bastion and McDermott, and the music was given by Misses Leydon, Davis, Lawrence, Dawson, and Messrs. McDermott and Hackshaw.
