NORTHCOTE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The report of the annual meeting of the North Shore Water Board was received at the meeting of the Northcote Borough Council last evening. The Mayor, Mr. A. E. Greenslade, who is the council’s representative on the board, stated that the borough’s contribution for the present year was £3B 8s 9d, as compared with £79 last year. Several requests from ratepayers for improvements to the footpaths approaching their residences were referred to tlie borough overseer for immediate attention. The Devonport Steam Ferry Company, in acknowledging the x’equest for the rearrangement of the Birkenhead and Northcote vehicular service on Sundays, stated that the company would give its earnest consideration to the request. The classification of streets in the borough as recommended by the council under the motor-lorry regulations, has been approved by the Minister of Public Works. The Auckland Hospital Auxiliary was granted permission to hold a street collection in the borough on Friday, Juno 28. A deputation from the Residents’ and Ratepayers' Association requested the council to place on this year’s estimates the sum of £IOO toward the erection of bathing sheds. Mr. E. C. Davy, president of the association, stressed the importance of providing suitable facilities, and presented plans and specifications for the erection of sheds at a cost of £125 each. He suggested that a Government subsidy be applied for, when the association would take steps to raise the balance required. The Mayor assured the deputation that careful consideration would be given to the request. Ttie suggestion that floodlights be erected to enable football practice on the Municipal Reserve was unfavourably commented upon, and it was considered unwise to install the lights at present owing to the newness of the area.
