WESTFIELD STOCK SALE V WESTFIELD. 2.30 p.m. v AH iggregate yarding of approxin ly 670 head of fat cattle came forward to the Westfield fat stock sale today. The market held firm at late rates. Best ox beef made to 38s; best young cow and heifer to 34s a hundred. THE yarding of ox beef was down -*■ on late entries, approximately 260 head coming forward. Heavy prime cattle were hard to locate, the offering being made up mostly of handyweight, well-finished young cattle. Whakatane graziers were big contributors of medium-weight steers. Only a small percentage of the yarding came from the North, and Waikato vendors were well down on their usual quota.

Although the attendance of buyers during the morning was not large, competition was well sustained, and prices held at late rates, special quality lines meeting with keen competition. . The only line of big framed, extra heavy prime cattle of the day came forward on account of C. E. Sampson, Waerenga, to top the market at £l6 10s. The highest priced line went »o T. Raster, Ponsonby. Fifteen medium to heavy prime steers on account W. J. and 11. H. Thompson, To Awamutu, made from .£l2 15s to £ls ss. Seventeen well-finished mediumweight cattle on account R. C. Morgan. Matamata, made from £l4 10s to £l4 17s 6d.

Forty-eight exceptionally well-fin-ished small to medium-framed young steers on account the estate of the hit€ Alexander Bell, Pokeno, made from £l2 15s to £l4 2s 6d. Fourteen handy-weight steers « n account Ball Bros., Whakatane. made from £l2 17s 6d to £l4 7s 'id. Well-finished medium to heavyweight steers on account C. Cl. Thirteen handy-weiglit steers on account R. E. Grieve, Te Puke, made from £ll 5s to £l4 2s 6d. Bay of Plenty graziers were exceptionally heavy contributors to the cow and heifer section. Again this week there was a big percentage of cull cows drawn from the dairy herds. One of the top-priced lines of the day came from T. James, Whakatane, nine extra heavy solid prime cows, on account of this vendor, making up to £.13 2s 6d for a beast which went to T. Collins, Avondale. Extra choice prime young Hereford heifers on account A. Commons, Putamru, made to £lO 12s 6d.

A slightly heavier yarding of calves met with a very firm market. A big percentage of the entry was drawn from the North, while several trucks also came forward on account of Waikato clients. A noticeable feature of the late yardings in this section is the tendency' of the entry of young and fresh dropped calves to increase. The season for these sorts will not be in full swing for another month yet. Heavy prime runners made up to £8 Ss fo.r a well-finished big-framed calf sold on account of R. Thompson, Fakaranga. J. Rowe, Newmarket, was the buyer. An exceptionally' choice heavy prime vealer on account Massey. Mangere. went to It. Stott, Birkenhead, for £6 16s.
