POWER DELIVERY
DELAYED FROM ARAPUNI ADJUSTMENTS BEING MADE No electricity has been delivered from the power station at Arapuni since last Friday, because of adjustments being made there. It is expected that the adjustment will be completed this week, however, and a continuous supply to Auckland then should be available. In a report submitted to the Auckland Power Board yesterday, Mr. R. H. Bartley, general manager, said difficulty had been experienced at Arapuni with the regulation of supply due to governors, and work on these had not yet been completed. “In the event of any failure from Arapuni, there must be a certain lapse of time before King’s Wharf can pick up the load, as it will not be feasible to keep a head of steam on all boilers, and plant warmed up, ready to get away immediately,” said Mr. Bartley. “When I say 'not feasible,' I refer mostly to the cost that this w r ould entail, and presume I am correct in assuming that the board views the position in this light. On the other hand, all precautions iind provisions commensurate with reasonable economy will be observed, and, in the event of trouble or interruption, King’s Wharf will be brought back again in the shortest possible space of time. “It must be anticipated that for at least some weeks yet, we shall not be able to derive the full benefits and economies from the hydro supply, as the necessary provisions requiring to be made in order that King’s Wharf may be kept always in readiness, really amounts to running two plants. This, however, will bfe corrected at the earliest moment.”
