NEWMARKET BOROUGH

The Auckland Hospital Board, in a letter received at a meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council last evening, intimated that the council’s contribution for the year ending March 31, 1930, was £1,785 12s lOd, a decrease of £3S ITs 3d on last year’s levy. The foreman of works reported that tram tracks in Khyber Pass between Crowburst Street and Maungawbau Road were in a very bad condition, and should receive immediate attention. Several other positions also needed attention. It was decided to bring the question under the notice of the Transport Board. The Mayor, Mr. S. Donaldson, and Mr. C. H. K. Mountain, were appointed to represent the council on committee meetings of the Auckland Harbour Bridge Association. It was decided to ask the City Council to expedite the work in connection with the Mortimer Pass loan. The question of revision of the standing orders, which were stated to be out of date, was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee for report. A committee was formed to investigate fire fighting in the district. The annual meeting of the Newmarket Domain Board followed the council meeting. The balance sheet showed Ss 4d brought forward, grants in aid £25, rents of reserves £ls, and bank interest 2s 3d, making total assets of £4O 10s 7d. Wages amounted to £37 12s 9d, leaving cash in hand of £2 17s lOd.
