POSTAL TRANSFER

PRESENTATION TO OFFICER A presentation to Mr. Val Dunne, supervisor of the parcels branch at the Chief Post Office, who has been transferred to a position in the mail room, was made by the staff of the parcels branch yesterday. Mr. H. J. Coleb.rook, senior assistant supervisor, in making the presentation of a handsome Petone rug, voiced the regret of the staff in losing Mr. Dunne as their controlling officer. It was unique to make a present to an officer of the department transferred from one branch to another in the same office, but the staff had been so happy under Mr. Dunne, and held him in such high esteem, that they could not let the occasion pass without expressing their regard and appreciation. Speaking as an officer of many years’ experience in the parcels branch, he could, without hesitation, say. that the department had never been so well managed as under Mr. Dunne’s control. A splendid service was given to the department and to the public, and the business firms of Auckland would endorse his .remarks and be equally sorry to lose Mr. Dunne’s services. Mr. Dunne thanked the staff for the handsome expression of their regard and esteem. He was particularly pleased to know that his management had piet with approval. He always endeavoured to carry out his duties to the department and the public with common sense, and that he had earned the good opinion of the staff was pleasing, as he knew that the commercial firms appreciated his efforts on their behalf. He regretted exceedingly his leaving the parcels branch. The staff gave cheers for Mr. Dunne and wished him success in his new sphere. Mr. Dunne takes up his new duties immediately.
