BUSY SCOWS

SMALL CRAFT ACT QUICKLY BASIC SLAG FOR FARMERS Auckland’s mosquito fleet is quick : on the job. No time is lost in transferring overseas cargoes from the wharf sheds to the more remote rural districts which are served by these small craft. The Port Auckland, which has been discharging a quantity of basic slag from Antwerp at Queen’s Wharf, sailed for Napier shortly after 10 o’clock last evening. Early this morning three sailing craft, the Paroto, the Thistle and the Scot, were berthed at the Port Auckland’s previous position, busily engaged loading bags of Antwerp’s basic slag for farmers. Altogether these three scows will take 166 tons of this fertiliser from port today, and will discharge their cargoes at Waipu, Matakana and Warkworth. The Port Auckland’s slag cargo was | also discharged in smart time.
