A VOID MARRIAGE
WOMAN’S SECOND VENTURE How a divorcee married a second time before her decree nisi was sealed was revealed to Mr. Justice Kennedy in the Supreme Court yesterday, when Mary Eliza Johnston (Mr. Matthews) asked for her union with Jas. Patrick McGowan to be annulled. Petitioner married Alfred Johnston in 1906, and in March, 1922, she was divorced, the decree nisi to be made absolute in three months. Before the decree was completed, acting in ignorance of the law. she was married by the registrar at Te Kopuru. She was informed by the registrar that she was quite in order and no further papers were necessary, but she was advised later that the -marriage was void. She admitted to his Honour that her husband, Johnston, was still alive, though she had not seen him for 15 years. On being satisfied that Johnston was alive at the time of petitioner's marriage to McGowan, his Honour agreed to make a decree absolute. Anticipation adds to life . its zest, Whate'er we most desire seems always best, But when possessed the fairest flower on,earth. At last seems commonplace and little worth. But some exceptions to the rule pertain. The things we need and use and use again. For coughs and colds one aid will still endure, Unfailing Woods’ Great Peppeimint Cure.
