KING'S BIRTHDAY
CEREMONIAL OBSERVANCE ON MONDAY BIG PARADE IN DOMAIN The 64th anniversary of the birth of His Majesty King George V. will be celebrated in Auckland on Monday. Ceremonial recognition of the event will be given, and there is to be a public holiday. The parade of all troops In No. 1 Regimental District to be held at the Domain in the morning is the principal ceremonial for the day, and added significance -will be given to this by the presence of his Excellency the Governor-General, who will inspect the troops and take the salute. The massed bands present are to play the National Anthem, and the Royal Nev Zealand Artillery will fire the Royal Salute of 21 guns. The parade will be under the command of Major SV. C. Finnis, N.Z.S.C. At noon, in the Town Hall supper room, the Mayor and councillors, the Auckland Provincial Patriotic and War Relief Association, and the Returned Soldiers’ Association, will give a luncheon iu honour of the King's Empire Veterans.
The principal public attraction for the day will be the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at Ellerslie. The running of the Great Northern Steeples, the most spectacular winter sporting event In the Dominion, is certain to draw a big crowd. City and suburban post and telegraph offices will observe the holiday, but arrangements hare been made to meet the public convenience. On Saturday on over-counter deliver}’ of correspondence will he made at the postmen’s branch between 7 and S p.m. On Monday general telegraph offices will open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 7 p.m. till midnight.
