WATER PIPE CORROSION
NO IRON BACTERIA IN NORTH SHORE MAINS “I have made investigations in the corroding and rusting of the North Shore water mains to ascertain if the incrustation is due to iron bacteria, but I have been unable to detect the presence of the organism.” Mr. F. L. Armitage told members of the Auckland Institute last evejiing. To test the results of his investigations he had preserved samples of the material blocking the pipes, and sent them to Mr. David Ellis, of Scotland, the leading authority on iron bacteria, but he, too, had pronounced that the trouble was not due to iron bacteria.
