A PRINCE’S DREAM

Arthur, the eldest son of Henry VII, was sent to live as a boy under the care of Lord Vernon at Haddon Hall, a beautiful old house which may still be seen in Derbyshire. Unknown to the prince himself, the King married him “by proxy” at the age of 16 to Catherine, daughter of King Ferdinand of Castile and Arragon. Strange for a husband not to know he was married! But this odd form of marriage was perfectly binding, although, as the name suggests, the bridegroom only appeared at the ceremony b> deputy. However, Arthur was very happy ai Haddon Hall till one day, when out walking, he chanced to fall asleep at the foot of an ancient cross, more than a thousand years old, which is still standing. He awoke very frightened, for he dreamed that he was just going to be married to somebody whom he had never heard of before, and that he would die soon afterwards. Home he ran* where, sure enough, news awaited him that he must go instantly to London to solemnise over again this marriage with Catherine, who had just landed from Spain. The first part of his dream soon came true' there took place a very splendid wedat which people spent fortunes m presents and display.
