MANUREWA TOWN BOARD

A letter was read at last evening’s meeting of the Manurewa Town Board from the Main Highways Board, expressing dissatisfaction with the state of the recently-laid bitumen shoulders along the Great fciouth Road, and recommending that portions of the road be relaid for final inspection. The clerk was instructed to ask Mr. McFarlane to inspect the areas concerned, in company with the foreman, and to recommend the work considered necessary. A request from the Main Highways Board for the cost of the work of concreting the Great South Road approaches to the overhead railway bridge was referred to the engineer for a report. A letter was received from the council of the Great South Road Beautifying Society offering financial assistance for the purchase of trees and shrubs for the purpose of beautifying the Great South Road. A comprehensive report by Mr. D. A. Hay, recommending the different kinds of shrubs suitable for planting in the various sections of the road, was enclosed. The clerk was instructed to make application to the Railway Department for permission to plant the railway reserve, adjacent to the overhead bridge, with dwarf native shrubs. In reply to a letter from the board complaining of the lateness -of the delivery of mail to the outskirts of the district, the postmaster as,ked that a list of business people affected be forwarded, and an effort would be made to expedite the delivery. The clerk was instructed to supply the information asked for.

Messrs. G. Osborne, F. Whyte, A. C. A. Sexton, G. Gallaher and the clerk were appointed a committee to place before Messrs. Cadbury and Frys the advantages of the district as a model settlement.
