PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD

The Papakura Town Board met on Monday evening, Mr. Jas. McCall presiding over a full attendance. The secretary of the Papakura Chamber of Commerce in a letter to the board said the Chamber had discussed the question of the new courthouse at its last meeting, and b»d decided to ask the Town Foard to make representations to the Justice Department that the courthouse be built well back from the street frontage.

The board decided to comply with the request. In acknowledging the board’s protest regarding defects in the power system, the Auckland Electric-Power Board said the latest failure was du* to a heavily-laden milk lorry running into a power pole and breaking the line. The breakage was repaired in one hour. The street lighting complaints would be rectified and receive immediate attention.

The medical officer of health submitted a copy of a report from the director of the pathological department, Auckland, on a sample of the Papakura water supply. The report indicated that the sample is satisfactory and that chlorination was effective.

The chairman of the finance committee brought down the estimates for the year, which provided for the rates to be the same as last year, 3id.

At the request of those members not on the finance committee, the adoption of the estimates was deferred till next meeting. The special committee set up to investigate farming lands reported that they met the petitioners with reference to the declaration of their land as farming land on Wednesday. May 22.
