Today An indication that there would w a reduction in the number of Ed cation Boards in New Zealand given by the Minister of Educa tion. the Hon. H. Atmore, i n dressing a conference of Educat Boards today. 10n Mr. Atmore said he was a firm tliever in the board system, but he * convinced there were too many bo*-*' at present. It was his aim to br>about a unification of control. tv' would not mean that there would tany whittling away of authority ot aboards, but would rather tend to i B . crease the powers of authorities in main educational districts. At present there was too great a n inclination for technical boards secondary boards and primary board? to think only of children, under teihparticular control. Instead of that education should be regarded as a continuous process from the time a chile went to a primary school until it com" pleted its education. The Minister said he regarded boards as the most important link in the educational chain, and would b-.* pleased have their co-operation at all particularly in thef raming of legislation. There was na reason why New Z**. land should not have the best educational system in the world.
