LAMB IN DEMAND MARKET SATISFACTORY Advices received by the Bank of New’ Zealand and the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board concerning meat sales at Smithfield reveal a satisfactory position. The Bank of New Zealand states in its report that the wether market has a firm tone. Prices for ewes are being maintained without difficulty. Lamb is in fair demand and prices are nominal for beef, which is much shorter in supply. According to the report to the board, New Zealand baconer pigs are weaker owing to lower prices for Continental bacon. Warm weather has been responsible for the small demand for porker pigs. On the other hand, warm weather is increasing the consumption of lamb. The bank’s list of prices is:—Wethers, light, 6d to 75d a lb; heavy, 4sd to s£d; ewes, 4sd to 53d; lambs, twos, 9£d to 95d; fours, Sd to S*d; eights, Slid to 9d; seconds. 9d to 9|d; ox hinds, s§d to 6d; fores, 45d to 4sd; cow hinds, s£d to 5Jd; fores, 4j to 4ld.
