BRISK DEMAND FOR FRUIT
COVENT GARDEN REPORT (United Set vice) LONDON, Saturday. Co vent Garden reports a brisk demand for apples and pears. Prices are tending to be more satisfactory. Australian and New Zealand apples are quoted at 12s to 16s; Tasmanians, 10s to 14s; Australian pears, 18s to 255. Apparently there are good possibilities for further advances. MINING NEWS LUCKY SHOT- —The mine manager reports that the contractors have extended the low level crosscut 28ft for the week, making a total of 95ft to date. During the past week the hanging wall of the main reef was exposed, proving the reef to be 23ft wide. A small vein on the hanging wall side making off into the west wall shows strong colours of gold. The crosscut is now out 23ft from the reef, and the present face is a splendid class of gold bearing andesite interlaced with small quartz veins.
