TROTTING

( By

"ABAYDOS")

HORSES FOR HASTINGS AUCKLAND REPRESENTATION There was keen d isappoi ntment among several trainers on Saturday morning at Epscm, when as a result of the torrential rain which fell from an early hour, the training track was unfit for work. A few missed the opportunity offering on Thursday and Friday, when the circuit was in fine order. consequently their lamentations at the changed weather conditions were genuine. \ NUMBER ol candid te - A * Hawke’s Bay were given i spin (before the “drought” broke tnd some of them shaped sufficiently well to enI courage their trainers to continue th<* : Cast Coast engagements. Although acceptances are not due till tonight. ,* is assured there will be a good representation from this quartet * * * Polly’s Picture is in good shape and promises to strip a very fit mare at Hastings. In her final essay at Epsom the Prince Child mare displayed .* good deal of dash and made mart-.-friends. She will require to be at her best to some at Hastings. Horizon, who for some time past has been a disappointment to his party showed up in a good light as a stayer prior to leaving for Hastings, and provided he is adjusted in the Cup in keeping with his past two-mile performance should add interest to the event. However, he is not always in tli« right humour. Nebraska, who was included in Geo. Mitchell’s team which left on Friday night for the East Coast, is a well bred

trotter that has yet to make his appearance under silk. He has a. bold style of locomotion, but inexperience will be against him on race day. • * • Although Lady Yvonne has not v A. set the Thames on fire it is evident her final work-out for Hawke's Bay was satisfactory, as lieo. Stubbs is already located at Hastings with the daughter of Our Thorpe. Unless she races better next week than in her previous essays she will find it hard to catch a prize. Arachne was geared up the other morning, but the Logan Pointer mare again adopted the pulling tactics which characterised her effort at Hawera. If she can get over this defect the mare should be right, as she can unfurl a good turn of speed. Xothing is bleasing better than Benefice, and if the Key do Oro mare was going to race on a dirt track at. Hastings her prospects of success would be tinted with a. rosy hue. One of these days she will go it right on the turf. • * * Carnui, who showed up prominently at the recent Cambridge fixture over 10 furlongs, was a visitor to Epsom toward the weekend and infused a lot of dash into an essay 'over the same distance. C. Andrews was behind the El Carbine gelding, who was banging his knees again on the bends. The larger track at Hastings will no doubt be more suitable for the improving pacer. * * « C. G. Lee has not received much encouragement to take his little pacer. Xelson Dillon, to the Hawke’s Bay meeting, and it will occasion no surprise to find his charges missing from the acceptance list. Lee has not had the best of luck with the Harold Dillon pacer in his races and appears to be unlucky handicappers. Aucklanders who saw Peter Lloyd working at Epsom some time back under Harry Kinnimont’s supervision will be interested to note how the Peterwah gelding shapes when he sports silk for the first time. When tramed nt the Park Peter gave the impression that he was level-headed, and hfc could certainlv pace to some tune. * * * .T. T. Paul intends leaving for the East Coast this afternoon with the handsome two-year-old Great Parrish, and My Thorpe, the big gelding by Our Thorpe from a King George mare. The Sapling Stakes candidate fined down somewhat after his Cambridge trip, and is evidently not a good traveller. * # # F. Mills, the young Mangere trainer who is putting Haroto through his facings, may also make the trip in company with J. T.’s pair. Haroto was well supported at Cambridge in the 13furlong flutter, but be was not sighted at the right end. He may do better, however, over a shorter course. * * * Lady Barrington, who is a credit to trainer Herring, visited Epsom the other day and worked solidly over sev-

eral circuits. The Gold Bell mare won the Hawke’s Bay Cup last year, and is certainly in splendid heart to try and repeat the performance at the approaching fixture. * * * According to our Whangarei correspondent, there is a doubt about Moko Bly making the trip to Hastings, but after the improved form the Peter Moko gelding showed at Cambridge, and the fact that he is on a handy mark in the Xapier Handicap. “Abaydos” will be surprised if owner Schon does not go across. * * * When Dealer won the Turua Handicap at Thames on March 23 he put up an attractive performance by coming at the right end to win in holi’ow fashion. On the strength of this attractive display his friends considered a race or two would come the way of Hova'*

Ison at Taranaki or Wanganui, but on the circuit W. Saunders's pacer did not run up to form. At Cambridge early this month, however. Dealer put more dash into his effort and ran a real good race io the 13-f iirlona heat, finishing close tip fourth. If the shuffle at the start of a her.t suits the Deal« r he can play a trump card at th# finish.
