Tried to Pull It Off W arrnam bool is a spectacular steeplechase course, and the Grand Annual this year was one of the greatest that has been seen for years, says a Victorian writer. Jubra, Flavel Light and Agricolo made the early running, then Jubra went on, and the first time in the Brierley paddock Oral Treaty made a great run and was second over Cox’s Hill. The jumping in the first round was exceptionally good. Going into the Brierley the second time the casualties began. Wanda King had moved from fourth last to first, and fell at the second fence here and brought down Flavel Light. Cooliel moved up very fast, as did Peter’s Pence, who had charge into Granter’s. and' lost his rider after landing over the first fence there. This left Cooliel in charge, with Agricolo and Pick Me moving up fast behind Jubra. At the second last fence Cooliel was well in front. Pick lie ran off, but continue*! In the racf* He jumped the last fence and drew rapidly on to Cooliel. whom he defeated in the run home. Then the fun began, bets being freely laid against Pick Me. Cooliel finished second to Pick Me. and Agricolo, another Grand Annual winner, was third, with Straight Shot, who bad made up a great deal of ground in the last round, fourth. Jubra was the only other to finish, as Oral Treaty and Late Night pulled up near the last fence. A protest by the connections of Cooliel against the winner was upheld, and the race was awarded to Cooliel, with Agricolo second. In the circumstances no third horse was placed. Notice of appeal was given Trouble In Queensland Litigation is threatened in what has now become a famous racing case in connection with the Queensland Turf. It all hinges on the disqualification of the racehorse Karadui at Ascot on February 16, along with the owner, R. S. White, trainer, F. Stanfield, and jockey, H. Hornery. Each of the parties was sent out for 12 months. Appeals were lodged, but when these came up for hearing in March, counsel for one of the appellants (White) claimed that his client had not been properly charged by the stewards and launched other technical objections. The barrister who appeared for the jockey and the trainer waived his objections under a similar heading and the cases against these two were heard by the committee of the Q.T.C. That body, sitting as an appeal court, dismissed both appeals, but reduced the sentence on both Hornery and Stanfield to three months in view of the excellent character given both by the stewards. White’s case was deferred until May 10. When it came on on that date Mr. A. D. McGill, who was appearing for White, objected to the Q.T.C. Committee proceeding further. He claimed that the charge was unwarranted by any rules of racing, and that the proceedings were contrary to natural justice. Accordingly he refused to accept the jurisdiction of the Q.T.C., and, after hinting that the matter would be tested in the Supreme Court, retired from the room. The committee, it was stated by the chairman, Mr. C. A. Morris, proposed to go on in the absence of "White and his counsel. Later it was announced that the appeal had been dismissed. At the conclusion of the case, Mr. James Clark, a member of the committee, who was not present when the appeals first came before the committee in March resented the action of counsel, and a suggestion that had been made that the committee had made up their minds that JVhite had been guilty of improper practices. He had not read a word of evidence, he said, and felt that it was unwarranted on counsel’s part, and a slur on the committee. One member of the committee Mr I J. Moore, expressed his opinion that trainer Stanfield was an innocent man in the ease. Interesting develonments whhH?
