MISS BIDDY PHILCOX CELEBRATES MAJORITY GUEST FOR EACH YEAR Because Miss Biddy Philcox firmly believes in lucky omens, she had her mother- Mrs. H. P. Ph?lcox, invite just 21 guests, one for each year, to her 21st birthday celebration at the Grand Hotel, and later at her sister, Mrs. Rex Hoye’s, home in Upland Road, Remuera, last evening. Twenty-one candles adorned her birthday cake, and 21 quaint little favours were presented by Mr. George Bassant, of the Grand Hotel, to the guests. Bowls of glorious yellow chrysanthemums and Iceland poppies were arranged in the rooms and lounges. Mrs. H. Philcox wore a gown of pastel grey and rose-flowered chiffon, with smart floral velvet wrap collared and cuffed with platinum fox. Miss Biddy Philcox was in a french frock of gold lace, with ankle-length petalled skirt, worn over a knee-length slip of lotus blue chiffon. A swathed sash of gold ring velvet finished the waist and she wore a spray of scarlet flowers. Mrs. Joseph Stanton’s gown was of shaded rose paillettes, worn under a wrap of gold lace. A beautiful spray of orchid blooms was pinned to the corsage of the floral chiffon frock, in shades of midnight blue and gold, worn by Mrs. Trevor Davis. Her wrap was of gold tissue with fur collar and cuffs. Mrs. Rex Hoyes was gowned in pistasche green and ivory charmeuse, the peacock skirt dipping to the ankles at the back. A shoulder spray of vivid pink cyclamen added a striking colour note. Miss Sally Rainger’s frock was of Chinese red and amber flowered georgette, with deep shadow hem of black chiffon and a wide blac ksash finishing in a large butterfly bow on one hip. Miss Jean Lawford wore a smart gown, of black chiffon with a sash of silver lame looped into a graceful bow, with long streamer ends. Miss Janet Clarkson’s distinctive black georgette gown of uneven length had a deep yoke of finest parchment lace. An absinthe green satin charmeuse gown cut on simple lines with deep decolletagre was worn by Miss Jean Mac indoe. Miss Tweet Macindoe wore a smart little dinner frock of the new nasturtium red. The men guests were: Mr. H. P. Philcox, Mr. Joseph Stanton, Mr. Trevor Ha vis, Mr. Rex. Hoyes, Captain Seeley (London), Mr. Hennis Lawford. Mr. Jock Gillespie, Mr. Keith Rollings, Mr. Frank Hawson, Mr. Hon Commons and Mr. J. Kingston. .
