In the great hall the crowd stood motionless while the bands pealed out. the National Anthem. Then they burst Into cheering, loud and long. Three guards of honour, supplied by the Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force, occupied nearly the whole arena. The Prince of Wales, in the uniform of the Welsh Guards, stood at, the salute at the head and in centre of the guards of honour. After the Prince had inspected the guards of honour he entered the Royal box. Both the Queen and the Prince watched with great interest the clever evolutions carried out by the men of the various services. The Prince of Wales, in the garden of St. James’s Palace, earlier in the day received the colours of the West African Regiment, of which he was Colonel-in-Chief, on its disbandment after 30 years of service. Eighteen ex-oflicers of the regiment attended in khaki, and 50 ex-members of the regiment came in civilian clothes. They were escorted on their farewell march to the palace by the Scots Guards. “I am proud to take over your colours,” said the Prince. “It will be preserved for all time at Windsor Castle.”
