YOUTH IN CHARGE
YOUNG CATHOLICS OF PAPATOETOE ARRANGE DANCE FOR CHURCH FUNDS To assist in reducing the debt on Papatoetoe Catholic church, the young Catholics of that district got together recently, and decided to hold a dance. Last evening the function took place, and the youthful workers were well rewarded for their efforts by seeing the Renown Hall well filled by patrons, who spent a very gay evening in dancing to the excellent music provided by Hanlin’s Orchestra. The duties of M.C.’s were carried out by Messrs. C. J. Lambert, T. Biggin, and J. Healey. Dance competitions added gaiety to the evening, these being won by Miss Lu Brewer and Mr. Tanseley, Monte Carlo waltz; Miss Littlejohn and Mr. Bert Epps: Miss Nellie Hamlin and Mr. McCaulay; Miss Grinter and Mr. G. Jones, roulette dances. Keen competition was displayed in the progressive euchre tournament. Mrs. Brewer won the women’s section, and Mr. Willcox the men’s section. Multi-coloured streamers and balloons made effective decorations. Among those present were: Mrs. Healey, wearing a frock of navy crepe de chine. Mrs. Lambert, in a frock of black georgette, with relief of gold lace. Mrs. De Lacey, in a frock of japonica silk and black georgette. Mrs. Millar, whose frock was of flame crepe de chine. Mrs. Rhodes, who chose crepe de chine frock. Mrs. Brewer, in a sage green crepe de chine frock. Airs. Collins, wearing a black satin carreau frock. Miss Phyllis Healey, in rose blush satin luxor. Aliss Lot Butler, wearing a pompadour crepe de chine frock. Miss. Irene Rhodes, whose ashes of i roses georgette frock had a posy to tone. Miss Rona Healey, wearing cyclamen satin and georgette. Aliss Fat Piggin. in a frock of cyclamen lace, worn oA*er crepe elise. Miss Loraine Thompson, who wore a frock of wineberry taffeta. Miss Tanseley, in a sage green beaded georgette frock. Miss Joan Piggin, wearing a frock of helio georgette. Aliss Hamilton, in a peacock green georgette frock. AJiss Thomas, who chose a frock of patterned georgette. Miss Betty Chappel, in bullet blue crepe j de chine. Aliss Edna Bluett, whose black frock was of unrelieved panne velvet. Afiss Jean AlcKenzie, wearing navy crepe de chine.
