SLIGHTLY INTOXICATED
MOTORIST FINED £2O A fine of £2O was levied on John Ronald Barber by Mr. F. H. Levien, SM, at the Onehunga Police Court this morning for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in Manukau Road at midnight on May 1. Mr. Osburne Lilly, who appeared for accused, admitted that Barber had had a few drinks through the evening and he now threw himself on the leniency of the court. It was his first offence and hitherto he had possessed a stainless character. Mr. Osburne Lily requested that his client’s name should be suppressed. Dr. W. Howard Thomas certified that when he examined accused shortly after his arrest he was slightly intoxiCa ßa d rber. however, was not convinced and on liis application the police called in Dr. James Kirkwood, who saw accused at 1.45 a.m. and certified that he then had the appearance of recovering from the effects of alcohol and was still slightly under the influence Tho magistrate said that it was not ■1 bad cast, but; in view of the opinion of two doctors, he would fine accused £2O and could not see his way to suppress his name. -
