THIEVES IN MT. EDEN
MINISTER’S RESIDENCE RANSACKED The house of the minister of the Mount Eden Congregational Church, the Rev. R. C. Roberts, 8.A., 8.D., was thoroughly ransacked yesterday by thieves, who decamped with a small sum in silver and pennies. Mr. Roberts’s family has been out of town for a few days on holiday, and at 10 a.m. yesterday when he visited the house everything was as usual. He locked the doors, but on returning at about nine o’clock last evening, found the front door open. All the rooms had been searched and drawers, boxes and suitcases had been opened by the intruders, whose object was evidently to secure money. Except for a few articles in upstairs rooms nothing was strewn about the floors.
